The Keweenaw Peninsula is the northernmost part of the U.P. of Michigan.
From 1964-1971 NASA and the University of Michigan conducted rocket launches from this isolated location at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The site is a little tricky to get to but once you get there you can see what remains of the launchpad as well as a plaque honoring the historic efforts that took place there.
It’s about a 45 minute drive North from the Laurium Manor Inn. If you go on a clear day you’ll be able see a spectacular view of Lake Superior as well as Manitou Island–which is approx. 3 miles off the coast.
